- It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
- Launched: 15th February 2023.
- Financial Outlay: The government has approved a total financial outlay of Rs. 4800 Crore for the successful implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme.
- Objective of the Programme:
- The primary objective of the VVP is to encourage people to stay in these remote villages by providing sustainable livelihoods and improving living conditions.
- The programme will support various interventions in the selected villages, including:
- Tourism & Cultural Heritage Promotion: Focusing on creating tourism opportunities by leveraging the rich cultural heritage of these regions.
- Skill Development & Entrepreneurship: Helping villagers gain new skills and fostering entrepreneurship for self-sustenance.
- Agriculture and Horticulture Development: Supporting agricultural activities, including cultivation of medicinal plants and herbs.
- Cooperative Societies Development: Promoting cooperative societies to help farmers and entrepreneurs thrive.
- Improved Connectivity: Providing road connectivity to previously unconnected villages, as well as enhancing telecom and television services.
- Energy Supply: Focusing on renewable energy initiatives to ensure sustainable power for these areas.
- Infrastructure Development: Upgrading the physical infrastructure to improve living standards.
Where is it Launched?
- It covers the bordering regions of 19 districts across five states and one Union Territory:
- Arunachal Pradesh – 455 villages
- Sikkim – 46 villages
- Uttarakhand – 51 villages
- Himachal Pradesh – 75 villages
- Ladakh (UT) – 35 villages
Key Achievements
- Since its launch, over 6800 activities have been carried out under the programme, including:
- Awareness drives
- Service delivery camps
- Health and veterinary camps
- Training and capacity-building activities
- Fairs & Festivals
- Promotion of tourism activities
- These interventions aim to foster community participation, skill enhancement, and economic self-sufficiency.
