About 

December 26 is observed as "Veer Bal Diwas" to honor the bravery of the Sahibzades, the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the last Sikh Guru.

 

Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh 

  • Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh are highly revered Sikh martyrs. 
  • In 1704, Mughal forces besieged Anandpur Sahib on Aurangzeb's orders, capturing the two sons of Guru Gobind Singh. 
  • They were offered freedom if they converted to Islam but refused and were bricked alive. 
  • They chose death over compromising the principles of Dharma. 

Guru Gobind Singh 

  • Birth: Born on 22nd December 1666 in Patna, Bihar. 
  • Role: Became the tenth Sikh Guru at age nine after his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur's demise. 
  • Death: Assassinated in 1708. 

Contributions 

  • Religious 
    • Introduced the turban and established the principles of Khalsa with the Five K’s 
      • Kesh (uncut hair), Kanga (wooden comb), Kara (iron bracelet), Kirpan (dagger), and Kachera (short breeches). 
    • Advocated abstinence from tobacco, alcohol, and halal meat. 
    • Declared Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru of Sikhs. 
  • Martial 
    • Fought the Mughals in the Battles of Muktsar (1705) and Anandpur (1704), losing his mother and sons during the conflicts. 
  • Literary 
    • Authored texts like Jaap Sahib, Benti Chaupai, and Zafarnama (a letter to Aurangzeb).
