Why in News?
Recently, the Government e Marketplace (GeM) celebrated six years of the SWAYATT initiative (Startups, Women & Youth Advantage through e-Transactions) in New Delhi.
About
- Launched on February 19, 2019, to boost women-led enterprises and youth in public procurement.
- Aims to enhance social inclusion, ease of doing business, and direct market access for startups, Micro & Small Enterprises (MSEs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), and marginalized groups.
- Focuses on training, onboarding last-mile sellers, and promoting small-scale businesses in government procurement.
Government e Marketplace (GeM)
- Established in 2016 as India’s National Procurement Portal for government ministries, departments, and PSUs.
- Developed by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry with support from MeitY’s National e-Governance Division.
- A fully digital, paperless, and cashless platform ensuring transparent procurement with minimal human intervention.
