About Privilege Motion

  • It is a formal request made by a member(s) to the presiding officer of the House to address an alleged breach of parliamentary privileges.
  • This motion safeguards the integrity and functioning of the legislative process.

Note

  • Parliamentary Privileges are special rights enjoyed by:
    • Each House Collectively: As a constituent part of Parliament.
    • Members Individually: To ensure they can discharge their functions effectively and without external interference.
  • These privileges exceed those rights available to other bodies or individuals.
  • Privileges are not codified but derived from:
    • Article 105 of the Constitution.
    • Code of Civil Procedure (1908).
    • Parliamentary Conventions, among others.
