Why in News?
- On 17th March 2025, Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, along with Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Minister of State for Road and Transport Shri Harsh Malhotra, launched a dedicated mobile app for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) at Samanvay Hall, Parliament, New Delhi.
- This initiative is aimed at enhancing accessibility and streamlining the process for youth seeking internship opportunities across India.
Key Features of the PMIS App:
- Intuitive Interface: The app offers a clean design and user-friendly navigation for easy access.
- Aadhaar Face Authentication: Simplifies the registration process for candidates using Aadhaar-based face recognition.
- Effortless Navigation: Candidates can filter internship opportunities by location, industry, and more.
- Personalized Dashboard: Provides a tailored experience for each user.
- Dedicated Support Team: Access to real-time assistance for candidates.
- Real-Time Alerts: Keeps users informed with up-to-date notifications on new internship opportunities.
Referral Program
- The app also integrates a referral program launched by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), enabling users to refer others for internships and earn rewards. Registered users on the PMIS portal (web version) can participate in this program as well.
About the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS)
- Announced in the Budget 2024-25, the PMIS aims to provide internships to one crore youth in India’s top 500 companies over the next five years.
- Pilot Project (FY 2024-25) began with 1.25 lakh opportunities, with a focus on providing paid internships (12 months) to youth aged 21-24, who are neither in full-time education nor employment.
- Interns receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 and a one-time allowance of ₹6,000.
