Why in the News?

The Ministry of Tourism launched the Paryatan Mitra/Paryatan Didi initiative to enhance tourist experiences and promote responsible tourism. 

Key Highlights: 

• Pilot Locations: Orchha (MP), Gandikota (AP), Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Aizawl (Mizoram), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), and Sri Vijaya Puram (Andaman & Nicobar). 
• Focus: Train locals like cab drivers, hotel staff, vendors, and students on tourism awareness, cleanliness, safety, sustainability, and hospitality. 
• Expansion: Extended to 50 tourist destinations on World Tourism Day 2024. 
• Impact: Over 3,500 individuals trained since its pilot launch on August 15, 2024.
