Why in News?
Recently, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project.
About Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Project
- The Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Project is an inter-state river-linking initiative designed to divert surplus water from the Parbati, Newaj, and Kalisindh rivers to the Chambal River in Madhya Pradesh and further to the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) in Rajasthan.
- This project aims to address water sharing, cost distribution, and water exchange between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Objectives
- Provide irrigation and drinking water to 21 districts in Rajasthan.
- Boost development in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Rivers Involved
- Chambal River: Originates from Singar Chouri Peak, Vindhya Mountains, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Major tributaries include Banas, Kali Sindh, Sipra, and Parbati.
- Parvati River: Originates from the Vindhya Range, Sehore District, Madhya Pradesh.
- Kali Sindh River: Originates from Bagli, Dewas District, Madhya Pradesh. Major tributaries include Parwan, Newaj, and Ahu.
