NITI Aayog, established on 1st January 2015, replaced the Planning Commission with a focus on a ‘Bottom-Up’ approach to governance, emphasizing ‘Maximum Governance, Minimum Government’ and the spirit of ‘Cooperative Federalism.’

Chairperson: Prime Minister. 
Vice-Chairperson: Appointed by the Prime Minister. 
Governing Council: Includes Chief Ministers of all states and Lt. Governors of Union Territories. 
Regional Councils: Address specific regional issues and are chaired by the Prime Minister or a nominee. 
Ad-hoc Membership: Experts from research institutions (rotational). 
Ex-Officio Membership: Up to four Union Ministers nominated by the Prime Minister. 
CEO: Appointed by the Prime Minister. 
Special Invitees: Specialists and domain experts nominated by the Prime Minister
