About NITI Aayog
- NITI Aayog, established on 1st January 2015, replaced the Planning Commission with a focus on a ‘Bottom-Up’ approach to governance, emphasizing ‘Maximum Governance, Minimum Government’ and the spirit of ‘Cooperative Federalism.’
Composition
- Chairperson: Prime Minister.
- Vice-Chairperson: Appointed by the Prime Minister.
- Governing Council: Includes Chief Ministers of all states and Lt. Governors of Union Territories.
- Regional Councils: Address specific regional issues and are chaired by the Prime Minister or a nominee.
- Ad-hoc Membership: Experts from research institutions (rotational).
- Ex-Officio Membership: Up to four Union Ministers nominated by the Prime Minister.
- CEO: Appointed by the Prime Minister.
- Special Invitees: Specialists and domain experts nominated by the Prime Minister
