What is NEP 2020?
NEP 2020 replaced the 34-year-old NEP 1986, aiming to improve the quality, equity, and accessibility of education.
- Based on Dr. K Kasturirangan Committee's recommendations, it focuses on foundational literacy, holistic learning, multilingual education, and blending academics with vocational training.
Key Highlights
- New Structure: Replaces 10+2 with 5+3+3+4 system for ages 3-18.
- Foundational Stage (5 yrs): Play-based learning (Ages 3-8)
- Preparatory Stage (3 yrs): Formal learning starts (Grades 3-5)
- Middle Stage (3 yrs): Experiential learning (Grades 6-8)
- Secondary Stage (4 yrs): Flexible subject choices (Grades 9-12)
- Experiential Learning: Internships, field visits, and projects.
- Digital Integration: Promotes online platforms and tech-driven classrooms.
- Teacher Training: Focus on continuous professional development.
