National Cadet Corps (NCC) 

Establishment 

  • Founded in 1948 based on H. N. Kunzru Committee (1946) recommendations. 
  • Originates from British-era youth organizations like the University Corps. 

Current Structure 

  • Strength: Around 14 lakh cadets from Army, Navy, and Air Force wings. 
  • Falls under the Ministry of Defence, led by a three-star rank Director General. 

Enrollment 

  • Open to students at high school and college levels. 
  • Cadets earn certificates after completing various training phases. 

Training & Activities 

  • Basic military training along with an academic focus on armed forces. 
  • Involves training camps, adventure programs, and military drills. 

Significance 

  • Cadets have played vital roles in disaster relief efforts over the years. 
  • During the pandemic, 60,000 cadets assisted in voluntary relief operations across the country.
