Why in the News?
The Delhi High Court refused to grant interim relief to wrestler Bajrang Punia by setting aside his provisional suspension by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on 21st June 2024 for alleged anti-doping rule violations.
National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA)
- Established: 24th November 2005
- Vision: Creating a dope-free environment and promoting fair play in sports in India
- Objectives
- ensure clean sport practices
- sharing anti-doping resources
- augmenting joint efforts towards achieving fair play
- Ministry: An autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
- Established: November 1999 under the International Olympic Committee.
- Headquarters: Montreal, Canada
- Recognised by: UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport (2005).
- Role: To develop, harmonise, and coordinate anti-doping regulations across all sports and countries.
- It does so by ensuring proper implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADA Code) and its standards, conducting investigations into doping incidents, conducting research on doping, and educating sportspersons and related personnel on anti-doping regulations.
