Meghalaya to Host 2027 National Games

Why in News?
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced that Meghalaya will host the 39th National Games in February/March 2027.
- IOA President PT Usha informed Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of this decision, marking an important milestone for the northeastern state.
- As the next host, Meghalaya will receive the IOA flag during the closing ceremony of the ongoing 38th National Games in Uttarakhand.
Significance of the Games
The National Games are among India's biggest multi-sport events, with approximately 10,000 athletes and officials taking part in the ongoing edition in Uttarakhand.

35th Edition (2015): Kerala
36th Edition (2022): Gujarat
37th Edition (2023): Goa (held in five cities)
38th Edition (2024): Uttarakhand (held in seven cities, main venue: Dehradun)
39th Edition (2027): Meghalaya
