Konark Sun Temple
- Location: Near Puri, Odisha.
- Built by: King Narasimhadeva I in the 13th century (AD 1238-1264), representing the glory of the Eastern Ganga Empire.
- Eastern Ganga Dynasty: Also known as Rudhi Gangas, they ruled Kalinga from the 5th to the 15th century.
- Design: Shaped like a colossal chariot, dedicated to the Sun God, with intricate sculptural work showcasing Kalinga architecture.
- Architecture: The Konark Sun Temple exemplifies Nagara style architecture with distinctive Kalinga influences.
- Symbolism: The 24 wheels may represent the hours of the day or months of the year, while the 7 horses symbolize the days of the week.
- Heritage Status: Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
- Historical Significance: Known as the "Black Pagoda" by sailors for allegedly causing shipwrecks, it reflects the spread of the Surya cult from Kashmir to Eastern India
