Why in News? 

The state of Tripura is set to organise the Jatra Utsav, celebrating and promoting the traditional folk theatre form of Jatra, which holds significant cultural relevance in Eastern India. 

About Jatra 

•  A popular folk theatre forms prevalent in Bengal and Odisha. 
• Historical Origin: Linked to the rise of Vaishnavism and the Bhakti Movement in the 16th century, pioneered by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. 
• It is a composite art form, also called a theatre of mixed means, combining: song, dance, acting and recitation. 
• Themes Depicted: Mythology, secular stories, humour, valour and heroism and melodramatic events.
