Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) 

  1. Established: February 20, 1997, under the TRAI Act, 1997. 
  2. Composition: A chairperson, up to two whole-time members, and up to two part-time members. 
  3. Functions 
  1. Regulates telecom services, including tariff fixation. 
  2. Ensures quality of service and tariff transparency. 
  3. Advises the government on policies and licensing. 

4. Binding Nature: TRAI's recommendations are not binding on the government. 

5. Appellate Authority: The Telecommunications Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), established in 2000, handles disputes and adjudications previously under TRAI.
