    • To inspire young Indians to consider careers in the IAF, thereby promoting recruitment and training efforts.
    • To pay tribute to the bravery and dedication of IAF personnel who protect India’s sovereignty and engage in disaster relief operations.
  • Theme 2024: ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Shashakt, Atmanirbhar’ (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant).
    • The theme emphasises IAF’s commitment to self-reliance and modernisation, reflecting India’s vision for a robust defence capability.

About Indian Airforce

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) was officially formed on 8th October1932, as an auxiliary force under British rule
  • Its first flight occurred on April 1, 1933, involving six officers trained by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and 19 airmen, marking the beginning of its operational journey.
  • The initial fleet included four Westland Wapiti IIA biplanes based at Drigh Road, which established ‘A’ Flight in No. 1 (Army Cooperation) Squadron.
  • It is now the fourth largest air force in the world after the US, China, and Russia.
  • Motto of IAF: Nabha Sparsham Deeptam (Touch the sky with Glory)
