Why in News?
At India Energy Week 2025, India entered into several key strategic agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to bolster energy security and expand its supply sources.
India Energy Week Overview
- India Energy Week 2025, held in New Delhi, is organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI).
- Featuring over 700 exhibitors from the global energy sector, the event focuses on energy accessibility, security, sustainability, and decarbonization.
- FIPI serves as the apex body for hydrocarbon sector entities, acting as an industry interface with the government.
Major MoUs Signed:
- BPCL-Petrobras Agreement: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) signed an agreement with Brazil’s Petrobras to import up to 6 million barrels of crude oil, enhancing India's energy diversification.
- BPCL-Eco Wave Power Collaboration: BPCL partnered with Israel’s Eco Wave Power to establish India’s first wave energy pilot project in Mumbai.
- IOCL-ADNOC LNG Deal: Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) and the UAE’s ADNOC finalized a $7 billion contract for the supply of 1.2 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) over a 14-year period, commencing in 2026, supporting India's shift towards a natural gas-based economy.
