AGRICULTURAL AND PROCESSED FOOD PRODUCTS EXPORT DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (APEDA)

  • It was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act, 1985.

  • It is a government agency under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry
  • Objective: To develop and promote the export of scheduled products.
  • It is responsible for promoting the export of agricultural and processed food products from India.
  • It promotes Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) and other sustainable practices to ensure food safety.
  • It also handles Geographical Indications (GI) registration for products like Basmati rice, which helps protect and promote unique regional products.
