World Archery Championships 2023
- The Indian women's compound archery team made an indelible mark on history by securing a gold medal at the prestigious World Archery Championships hosted in Berlin, Germany.
- This remarkable triumph stands as India's inaugural gold achievement in the archery world championships across all categories, signifying a groundbreaking milestone for the nation.
- The victorious team consisted of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Gopichand Swami.
Indian Air Force Gets Israeli Spike Missiles
- The Indian Air Force (IAF) has received the Israeli Spike Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) with air-launch capabilities.
- These advanced missiles, capable of striking targets up to 50 km from a helicopter and 32 km from the ground, have been procured from Israel.
- Crafted by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, an Israeli company renowned for its expertise, this system boasts an array of configurations to suit diverse needs.
- These configurations encompass options such as man-portable, vehicle-launched, and helicopter-launched variants.
Hiroshima Day 2023
- The date of August 6, 1945, stands as a haunting milestone in human history, as it marked the day when the United States deployed an atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
- This tragic event bore witness to the unimaginable loss of countless innocent lives, casting a profound and lasting impact on the trajectory of mankind.
- Subsequently, the 6th of August has been designated as Hiroshima Day, somber annual observance dedicated to honouring the memory of the victims and contemplating the harrowing consequences of nuclear conflict.
PM Modi to Attend BRICS Summit in S. Africa
- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially affirmed his participation in the upcoming BRICS Summit, scheduled to convene in Johannesburg, South Africa, spanning the dates of August 22 to 24, 2023.
- Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has regrettably withdrawn his attendance from the same summit.
- The summit gains significance due to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and discussions on expanding the membership of BRICS, a topic of interest to both Russia and China.
Bihar to Constitute ‘Rhino Task Force’
- After a substantial increase in the number of tigers in Bihar, the State government is now all set to constitute a 'Rhino Task Force' for suggesting measures for the reintroduction of the terrestrial mammals in the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran district.
- At present there is only one rhino in VTR and 14 rhinos in Patna Zoo. After the reintroduction of the Rhino Conservation scheme, the number of rhinos will substantially increase in the VTR. Bihar to increase population of greater one-horned Rhinos by 3% annually.
- VTR has been selected as one of the potential sites under the National Rhino Conservation strategy where rhinos may be brought from other reserves in the country.
