World Day for Safety and Health at Work

  • Every year on April 28th, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed to promote the importance of maintaining a harmonious and secure working environment that prioritizes the well-being and fitness of employees on a global scale.
  • This day is observed on the same date as the adoption of the Occupational Safety and Health Convention by the ILO, which occurred on April 28, 1971.
  • The theme chosen for the 2023 World Day for Safety and Health at Work is "A safe and healthy working environment as a basic principle and right at work", underscoring the significance of safeguarding the safety and well-being of workers in the workplace as an indispensable principle and entitlement.

Union Home Minister Launched IFFCO’s Liquid Nano Di-Ammonia Phosphate

  • The "world's first liquid nano DAP (Di-Ammonia Phosphate) fertilizer" has been launched by India's Home Minister Amit Shah.
  • The innovative product, produced by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), is expected to revolutionize farming by enabling farmers to reduce their production expenses and transition away from chemical fertilizers.
  • The launch of IFFCO’s liquid DAP nano is an important beginning towards making India self-reliant in the field of fertilizers.
  • A single 500 ml bottle of liquid DAP comprises 8% Nitrogen and 16% Phosphorus and can replace a 50 kg sack of conventional DAP.
  • The significant aspect to note is that while farmers have to pay INR 1,350 for one 50 kg bag of DAP, the cost of a 500 ml liquid DAP bottle is only INR 600.

Union Cabinet Approves the Policy for the Medical Devices Sector

  • The National Medical Devices Policy has been endorsed by the Union Cabinet with the goal of boosting the local manufacturing of medical devices and decreasing reliance on imported equipment.
  • The government has commenced the implementation of the PLI Scheme for medical devices and has also provided assistance in the establishment of four medical device parks in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
  • So far, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for medical devices has approved 26 projects with a pledged investment of Rs 1,206 crore, of which Rs 714 crore has been realized.

World’s First Social Currency Payment Card has Launched in Mumbai

  • The world's first social currency payment card, called WYLD, has been launched in Mumbai in partnership with Visa.
  • This platform will empower regular social media users, including those with only 1K followers, to capitalize on their Instagram following and earn substantial cashbacks on their routine expenses.
  • During its beta-testing phase, the platform is presently available through invitation only to the first 5,000 users on its waitlist, which has a capacity of 10,000 potential customers.
  • With its inception in 2021, WYLD is a mobile app and payment card that falls under the categories of Fintech and Martech. It operates on the premise that nano and micro social media users are the genuine disruptors in this market.

Agreement Signed Between India and UK to Collaborate on Science and Innovation

  • During the UK-India Science Innovation Council meeting held at the UK Parliament, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India and the United Kingdom to collaborate on science and innovation.
  • According to a press release by the UK government, the agreement is a significant step forward in the fields of science, research, and innovation.
  • The meeting was presided over by George Freeman, the UK Science Minister, and Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Indian Minister of State for Science and Technology.
  • The agreement aims to facilitate faster and more extensive cooperation in science between India and the United Kingdom. The goal of this collaboration is to stimulate economic growth, generate skilled employment opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for individuals residing in both countries as well as across the globe.
  • Furthermore, the press release stated that the agreement has the potential to remove barriers in some of the significant collaborations between the two nations.

Breast Cancer Specialist Dr. Raghu Ram Received a Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Dr. Raghu Ram Pillarisetti, the Founding Director of KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases, has been honored with a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' during the Ugadi 2023 festivities arranged by the Telugu Association of London (TAL) in London.
  • According to a press release, Dr. Raghu Ram Pillarisetti, the Founding Director of KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases, has become the youngest individual to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Telugu Association of London (TAL), which represents over 10,000 Telugu speaking people in and around London and is the UK's largest Telugu Charity Organization.
  • The breast cancer specialist received the award during the recently held Ugadi 2023 celebrations in London.

Ratan Tata Awarded Australia's Highest Civilian Honour

  • The highest civilian honour of Australia, known as the Order of Australia (AO), has been conferred upon Ratan Tata, who is the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons.
  • The Australian High Commissioner to India, Barry O’Farrell, took to his official Twitter account to announce that Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, was awarded the Order of Australia (AO) for his contributions towards enhancing the relationship between India and Australia.
  • With a workforce of approximately 17,000 employees, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) reportedly has the highest number of employees among all Indian companies in Australia. Ratan Tata has been a staunch advocate of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement scheduled for 2022.

A Heritage Festival Spanning Three Days Will be Organized by the Goa Government

  • From April 28 to 30, the tourism department of the Goa government will be organizing the 'Heritage Festival 2023' at Saligao village in North Goa.
  • According to a spokesperson from the tourism department, the festival's objective is to foster cultural tourism in Goa by showcasing the state's traditions, culture, and arts.
  • The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, in the presence of Union Minister Shripad Naik, State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, and Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ganesh Gaonkar.

Tata Motors and Cummins Join Hands to Produce Technology Products with Low-To-Zero Emissions in India

  • In a significant development, Cummins Inc, a major player in the power technology industry, has entered into a definitive agreement with Tata Motors Ltd to produce a series of technology products with low-to-zero emissions in India within the coming years.
  • According to a statement released by the company, a new business entity called TCPL Green Energy Solutions Private Ltd (GES) has been established as a wholly owned subsidiary under the existing joint venture between Cummins and Tata Motors Ltd (TML). This move is part of the agreement to manufacture low-to-zero emissions technology products in India.

Shivalik Small Finance Bank Has Announced a Strategic Partnership with Arya.ag

  • Arya.ag, a grain commerce platform, has revealed a strategic partnership with Shivalik Small Finance Bank to advance financial inclusion for farmers and FPOs.
  • Under the business correspondent model partnership, Arya.ag will extend loans to farmers and FPOs through Shivalik Small Finance Bank via Warehouse Receipt Finance, in line with its objective.
