International Day to End Obstetric Fistula 2023

  • May 23 marks the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula, which focuses on addressing a distressing consequence of childbirth.
  • Obstetric fistula refers to a hole in the birth canal that can occur when a woman undergoes prolonged and obstructed labour without proper medical assistance. This condition can have severe and lasting physical and social consequences for affected women.
  • The purpose of the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula is to promote awareness about this preventable and treatable condition and rally support for those impacted by it.
  • It serves as a platform for advocating for increased investment in maternal healthcare, improved access to high-quality obstetric care, and the complete eradication of obstetric fistula.

Peace and Non-Violence Cells Inaugurated in Rajasthan

  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated offices of the peace and non-violence cell in all the districts of the state.
  • Mr. Gehlot proudly mentioned that Rajasthan is the sole state in the country to have a dedicated Peace and Non-Violence Department, established last year.
  • The department has provided training at the block level to empower individuals in these principles. He also mentioned the forthcoming Gandhi Museum in Jaipur, emphasizing that it will be a unique institution where people can learn about Mahatma Gandhi's life and his significant contributions.

Neeraj Chopra has claimed number one ranking in men's javelin

  • On May 22, Neeraj Chopra, the gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, achieved a significant career milestone by securing the top position in the men's javelin rankings for the first time.
  • After consistently excelling in his performances, Neeraj Chopra has attained the number one position in the men's javelin rankings with an impressive score of 1455 points.
  • This achievement places him 22 points ahead of Anderson Peters from Grenada. Neeraj Chopra initially reached the second spot in the world rankings on August 30, 2022, but was consistently trailing behind Peters, the reigning world champion, until now.
