Nation Civil Services Day 2023

  • April 21 marks National Civil Services Day, which is commemorated annually to recognize the exceptional service provided by officers in central and state governments to the public. On this day, the Prime Minister of India acknowledges these contributions by conferring awards to deserving individuals in the field of public administration.
  • The day plays a significant role as civil servants like IAS, IPS and IFS take care of the needs of the people at a local level by providing services at the ground level.

Inaugural Session of Global Buddhist Summit

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will address the inaugural session of the Global Buddhist Summit on 20th April, 2023 at 10 AM at Hotel Ashok in Delhi.
  • From April 20 to 21, the Ministry of Culture is partnering with the International Buddhist Confederation to host a two-day Global Buddhist Summit, under the theme of "Philosophy to Praxis: Responses to Contemporary Challenges".
  • The aim of the Summit is to involve leaders and scholars in the global Buddhist community in discussions about issues of both Buddhist and universal significance, with the goal of generating collective policy recommendations to address them.

President Díaz-Canel Has been Confirmed for Another Term by Cuba's Parliament

  • As Cuba faces a severe economic crisis, its National Assembly has voted to confirm President Miguel Díaz-Canel for another five-year term.
  • The decision to maintain leadership continuity was made by over 400 representatives who were elected in March and assumed office on April 19.

Andhra CM Lays Foundation Stone for Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam

  • Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, initiated the construction of the Mulapeta greenfield port in Srikakulam district, which is estimated to cost Rs 4,362 crore and is anticipated to be finished within a period of two years.
  • In addition to the Mulapeta port, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the establishment of a fishing harbor in Budagatlapalem, a life irrigation project extending from Gotta barrage to Hira Mandalam reservoir, and the continuation of the Mahendra Tanaya River works.

SBI Has Partnered with Fasal to Provide Farmers with Convenient Access to Loans

  • Fasal, an Agri-Tech firm, has teamed up with the State Bank of India (SBI) to facilitate convenient access to funds for farmers.
  • The collaboration aims to address cash-flow issues during critical farming cycles by providing swift and uncomplicated loans at competitive interest rates without the need for collateral.
  • This initiative aligns with Fasal's overarching goal of addressing the various hurdles across the horticulture value chain and paving the way for India's horticultural advancement.

First Medical College will be Set Up in the northeastern State

  • The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, which will have 100 seats, has received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to be established. This marks the first time that a medical college will be established in Nagaland, a northeastern state that has been a state since 1963, after 60 years.
  • Announcing the NMC's approval to set up Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Kohima, Health and Family Welfare Minister P. Paiwang Konyak said on Wednesday that the academic session of the new medical college would begin from 2023-24.

Sonam Wangchuk Received the Prestigious Santokbaa Humanitarian Award

  • Sonam Wangchuk, the Founder-Director of Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), has been awarded the prestigious Santokbaa Humanitarian Award.
  • The award is an initiative of Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), a leading company in diamond crafting and exports, and its philanthropic arm, Shree Ramkrishna Knowledge Foundation (SRKKF).
  • Wangchuk is renowned for his work as an engineer, innovator, educationist, and advocate for sustainable development reform.

JN Stadium Shillong: Largest Multipurpose Indoor Stadium of Northeast

  • The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, recently announced that a multipurpose indoor stadium is being built in Shillong, which will be the biggest of its kind in Northeast India. The stadium is expected to provide advanced facilities for a variety of sports, such as basketball, squash, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, and several others.
