Every year on May 17^th, the world commemorates the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD).
This significant day was officially established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1969 to acknowledge the establishment of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and raise awareness about the importance of telecommunications and the information society.
The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day program for this year focuses on the theme of "Enabling the least developed nations through information and communication technologies."
The event is scheduled to be held at the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva, Switzerland.
