Urban Development Department and Lucknow Smart City Launched “School Health Program”

  • The State government released a statement announcing the launch of the "School Health Program" by the Urban Development Department and Lucknow Smart City.
  • Under the pilot project, the School Health Program has been started by Lucknow Smart City in three schools in Lucknow.
  • As part of the project, a digital health report card assessing the physical and mental well-being of 1765 municipal school students is being created.
  • Additionally, the children are being provided with health insurance worth Rs 25,000. Once the pilot project is successfully completed, it is expected that the program will be extended to the other nine smart cities in the state.

Inauguration of India’s First IAF Centre in Chandigarh

  • According to officials, the Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Centre, the first of its kind, was inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday.
  • The Centre was established through a memorandum of understanding signed last year between the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the IAF.
  • The event was attended by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, in addition to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • Spread over 17,000 square feet, this is the first heritage centre of the IAF and depicts its role in various wars, including in 1965, 1971 and the Kargil war, and the Balakot air strike through murals and memorabilia.

  • From departing her humble village in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha to becoming India's first citizen, Murmu accomplished several unprecedented feats through an unconventional path.

42nd Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)


  • Under the theme of "ASEAN Affairs: Epicenter of Growth," the 42nd Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has commenced in Indonesia.
  • The summit seeks to showcase the aspirations and endeavours of the bloc to emerge as the focal point and impetus of worldwide progress.
  • As the President of the bloc, Joko Widodo highlighted the vast potential of the ASEAN region, which comprises a total population of roughly 650 million individuals and consistently surpasses the global average in terms of economic growth.
  • He urged member nations to unify their production capabilities to establish Southeast Asia as the epicenter of worldwide development.

Hare Krishna Heritage Tower Project

  • Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao initiated the construction of the Hare Krishna Movement's Heritage Tower in the city and pledged a donation of Rs 25 crore towards the project.
  • Spanning across six acres of land in Narsingi, a 400-feet-tall structure named the Hare Krishna Heritage Tower will be erected at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore. The tower will encompass the Sri Sri Radha Krishna and Sri Venkateswara Swamy temples within its premises.

Max Verstappen Wins the Miami Grand Prix 2023

  • Max Verstappen, the world champion, showcased a brilliant performance by starting from the ninth position on the grid and defeating his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, to clinch the victory at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday.
  • This win has further expanded Verstappen's lead at the summit of the standings and comes after his triumph at the inaugural Miami race in the previous year.
  • With four 1-2 finishes in the current season's first five races, Red Bull has been dominating the sport, leaving their competitors to compete for the third place on the podium.
  • Aston Martin's experienced Spanish driver, Fernando Alonso, clinched the third place at the Miami Grand Prix, marking his fourth podium finish in the current season's five races.

ISRO Has Announced a New Online Training Programme Called START

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched an online training program called Space Science and Technology Awareness Training (START), designed for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying physical sciences and technology.
  • Academic institutions can submit applications for the programme through the Jigyasa portal by May 20.
  • The programme will cover various domains of Space Science, including Astronomy and Astrophysics, Heliophysics and Sun-Earth interaction, Instrumentation, and Aeronomy. It will be delivered by scientists from Indian academia and ISRO centres.

RBI Has Invested Additional Reserves in Sovereign Securities

  • In the latter half of FY23, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) invested its additional reserves in bonds and securities, primarily in those issued by highly rated sovereigns such as US Treasuries.
  • According to the Reserve Bank of India's latest foreign exchange management report, as of the end of March 2023, $411.65 billion out of the total foreign currency assets of $509.69 billion were invested in securities, which include mostly US Treasuries and debt issued by other highly rated sovereigns.
  • In the past six months, the proportion of securities has increased by almost 4 percentage points to 80.76%, while the remainder has been deposited with other central banks, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), and commercial banks.
