India, United States, Japan, South Korea and European Union Launched Biopharmaceutical Alliance

  • Launched during the Bio International Convention 2024 (the world’s largest biopharmaceutical exhibition), this alliance aims to channelize joint efforts to build a resilient supply chain in the biopharmaceutical sector.
  • The announcement was made at the inaugural meeting of the Biopharmaceutical Alliance, held in San Diego, California.
  • The participants emphasised the importance of a reliable and sustainable supply chain and agreed to coordinate the respective countries’ bio policies, regulations, and research and development support measures.

United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Election Results and Composition

  • The United Nations General Assembly elected Pakistan, Somalia, Panama, Denmark, and Greece as new non-permanent members to the UNSC.
  • They are elected secured seats for a two-year term starting January 1, 2025, replacing Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Ecuador, and Switzerland.
  • The Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.

World Oceans Day 2024

  • World Ocean’s Day is annually observed on 8th June.
  • The day raises awareness about the threats facing oceans, including pollution, overfishing, climate change, and habitat destruction and highlights the need for sustainable practices to ensure the health and longevity of marine environments.
  • The theme for the day 2024 World Oceans Day is Awaken New Depth.

Peru and Slovakia Signed the Artemis Accords for Peaceful Moon Exploration

  • Peru and Slovakia signed NASA’s Artemis Accords for peaceful cooperation in space and on the moon.
  • The addition of these two nations brings the total of signing countries to 42.
  • The Artemis Accords were first launched and signed in October 2020 by eight nations.
