  • It is a long-range nuclear-capable supersonic cruise missile system.
  • The missile is a result of collaboration between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
  • Origin: Named after the Brahmaputra River in India and the Moskva River in Russia.
  • It possesses the capability to be deployed from several platforms, including air, sea and land.
  • The development began in the early 1990s and the missile was first tested in 2001.
  • It is one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world, with speeds exceeding Mach 3 (three times the speed of sound).
  • It can carry a variety of warheads, including conventional high-explosive and nuclear payloads, with a weight capacity of up to 300 kg.
