    • Established: 1st December 1965, after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 exposed gaps in border security.

    • Key Contributor: K.F. Rustamji, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who played a pivotal role in the force’s inception.
    • Reason for Formation: To address inadequacies of State Armed Police forces in managing armed aggression and ensure comprehensive border security.

    • Peacetime Duties:
      • Guarding India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
      • Preventing trans-border crimes, including smuggling and unauthorized entry.
      • Intelligence collection and fostering security among border residents.

      • Holding ground in assigned sectors.
      • Conducting limited offensives against irregular enemy forces.
      • Assisting the Indian Army in operations near border areas.
