Why in News ? 

Recently, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana marked their 10^th anniversary since launch. 

 Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme 

• Purpose: To improve the Child Sex Ratio (CSR), prevent gender-biased sex selection and promote the survival, protection and education of the girl child. 
• Key Objectives 
  • Improve the Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) by 2 points annually. 
  • Achieve a sustained institutional delivery rate of 95% or above. 
  • Increase first-trimester antenatal care registrations and secondary education enrollment by 1% annually. 
  • Reduce dropout rates among girls at the secondary and higher secondary levels. 
  • Raise awareness about safe menstrual hygiene management. 
• Target Groups 
  • Primary: Young couples, expecting parents, adolescents and communities. 
  • Secondary: Schools, Anganwadi Centers, medical professionals, local government bodies, NGOs, media and religious leaders. 

 Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) 

• Purpose: Provides financial security for the girl child's future, focusing on education and empowerment. 
• Eligibility: Open to any resident Indian girl child, with accounts opened between birth and age 10. 
• Key Objectives 
  • Provide financial security for the girl child’s education and marriage. 
  • Encourage long-term savings for the girl child's future. 
  • Offer tax benefits and high interest rates to promote savings. 
  • Ensure financial discipline and support empowerment through savings.
