Why in News?
The Ministry of Education has introduced the APAAR ID, referred to as the "One Nation One Student ID Card," to unify and streamline student academic records nationwide.
What is APAAR?
- APAAR stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry.
- It is a unique identification system introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCrF).
- It provides every student in India with a permanent 12-digit ID to consolidate their academic records on a single platform.
Key Features
- Voluntary Registration: Students can choose to register; it is not mandatory.
- Objective: Simplifies and improves the academic experience by tracking the educational progress of over 260 million students and creating a globally recognized document.

DigiLocker: DigiLocker is a cloud-based platform developed under the Digital India initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It allows users to securely store, issue, and verify documents and certificates digitally. Documents stored in DigiLocker are legally considered equivalent to original physical documents under the Information Technology Rules, 2016. |
